Teacher of the Month - March 2009

Sponsored by Joto's Pizza

Merrie Spencer has been teaching first grade for the past 25 years at Skycrest Christian School in Clearwater. “Merrie has an incredible bond with her students,” Mrs. Angela Vomacka, one of Merrie’s colleagues, told us. “While she only teaches first grade, you will find her all over town at ball games, concerts, and other events supporting her former students. She continues to nurture, mentor and love her students well after they have graduated from her classroom. She probably has the biggest family in entire county.”

As Mrs. Amy Perry, one of Merrie’s former students, told us, “Miss Spencer not only loves to teach, but she loves her students as if they were her own children. She has invested the majority of her life inspiring us to achieve our dreams.”

Congratulations Miss Spencer on being selected as our “Teacher of the Month,” and thank you for the positive influence you are having in the lives of so many here in Pinellas County.

Know a Great Teacher?

It has been said that “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. But the great teacher inspires.”

Great teachers who stand out among their peers are the ones who genuinely care about the well-being of their students. They are kind, fun-loving, patient, understanding, and inspiring. Here in Pinellas County we have been blessed with some of the most exceptional teachers in the country. Each month, we want to recognize one of these special teachers.
