Meet the Lee Family

It was a little over 25 years ago in a classroom in Beijing China (some 8,000 miles from Pinellas County) that David and Sharon Lee first met. David and Sharon were both studying Computer Science and were classmates for five years at Tsinghua University. It was in their final year at the University that Sharon caught David’s eye. The two of them started dating and were married shortly after graduation. They have been married now for over twenty years.
In 1994, with just a few hundred dollars in hand, David and Sharon left everything behind in China and moved to Miami, FL. “While we do greatly miss our family,” the Lees told us, “we really love living in the U.S. and all of the freedoms we now have.” In 1996, David and Sharon relocated to Pinellas County. Since that time the Lees have not only become very rooted in the community, but they have also started a family. The Lees have two adorable children, Catherine and Jonathan, and if Jonathan has his way, they may someday even get a pet dog.
“Our children are the loves of our lives and it is a real joy to be able to take care of them,” the Lees told us. “We get so much enjoyment from just watching them grow and learn and mature. The difficult part of parenting though is that we know there will be disappointing moments. But as we tell others, parenting is not hard work, it is heart work. It is a process, and children model what they see, namely us - their parents.”
If you spend time with the Lees, you will certainly notice their cheerful spirit and their love for each other. They not only enjoy spending time together, but they love each other very much and are all the best of friends. And that is why we have selected them as our February “Family of the Month.
Meet the kids
Catherine is eight years old and is a true sweetheart with a super big heart for others. Whether it is sharing her food and things with others at school, calling her daddy at work to make sure he is OK, taking care of her Grandmother or simply helping out around the house, Catherine has a servant’s spirit through and through. Catherine also loves reading, dancing, Tae Kwon Do and playing the piano.
Jonathan is six years old and is your typical boy, full of spirit and filled with lots of energy. He loves to laugh and he has a reputation of always being happy. Jonathan’s PE teacher at Wellington School gave him the nick name “Happy” because as his teacher noticed, Jonathan “wears a smile every where he goes”. Jonathan also enjoys playing outdoors, playing soccer, participating in Tae Kwon Do and he really has a gift for painting.
By the way, both Catherine and Jonathan are Orange Belts in Tae Kwon Do!
