The Top Ten Most Romantic Things to Do for Your Wife

by Dennis Rainey

Family Life Today recently surveyed nearly one thousand couples to identify the top ten most romantic expressions a man can offer as he pursues his wife and here is what they came up with. Keep in mind though, that your wife is unique. She has her own idea of what is romantic to her. So with this in mind, use this top ten list as a place to start. Consider going on a date and giving her this list and asking her to personalize it according to her priorities.

10. Holding hands Whether for a moment or much longer, hold hands while driving, walking, sitting, or talking in bed.

9. Massage Give foot rubs, back rubs, neck rubs or a body massage. Don’t miss the feet – the Chinese have suggested for centuries that certain areas of the foot are connected to every organ in the body!

8. Acts of service Remember the common courtesies: opening the door, serving her, pulling a chair out for her, offering your arm while walking, or giving her a break from the kids.

7. A kiss Give her a kiss. Nibble on the back of her ear or neck, or just kiss each other before leaving for work or at the end of the day when coming home. Or, try locking lips for a full ten seconds – many couples have forgotten the power of a nice, gentle, prolonged kiss.

6. Walking together Early morning, after dinner, or as the sun sets, walking just as a couple is best.

5. Something written Leave notes, letters, poems, cards, messages on the bathroom mirror, or creative written reminders of affection somewhere she’ll find them.

4. Going out on a date A weekly date without the kids can be a lifesaver for your romance. Take her to dinner and/or the theater; go on a drive, antiquing, window-shopping, or some special place she’s been talking about.

3. Meals Have a quiet meal together with candlelight, linger over breakfast, or go on a picnic. Get dressed up and go to a nice restaurant. Definitely not fast food!

2. Touch Use nonsexual touch: holding her, hugging her, cuddling with her, or placing an arm around her in public. Cradling her face in your hands and looking into her eyes, and gently rubbing her back can communicate tender love to your wife.

1. Flowers Deliver, hand-pick, or bring home a single rose. It’s the gold standard, men. You can’t go wrong. Tulips are a great second choice.
