Congratulations to Mr. Joe LeBas on being selected as the March Teacher of the Month. Mr. LeBas teaches math at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and he has been doing so for the past 7 years. However teaching is Mr. LeBas’ second career. With advanced degrees in Business and Finance Joe worked for over 25 years as a very successful manager for an international manufacturing company. But as Joe will tell you, he worked for 25 years so that he could do what he really wanted to do – Teach young people math!

When we visited Mr. LeBas’ classroom this February to surprise him with a Joto’s Pizza Party, two things stood out to us immediately. The first was the great respect that the students had for Mr. LeBas and the second was the dozens of math sayings that were displayed throughout his classroom. Sayings such as “Math is Power!”, “Math is food for the brain!”, and “If you can’t do the math then nothing else adds up” were spread all throughout the room and the neat thing was that his students knew them all by heart.

Mr. LeBas is truly loved and appreciated by his students, their parents, and his colleagues. Here is a sampling of what they had to say about their favorite math teacher.

Joe has a true passion and caring love for his students. He comes in early every morning to help students and he stays late several days a week. He is an inspiration to the entire Blessed Sacrament Catholic School with his work ethic and his compassion for his students. And as the students say, Mr. LeBas Rocks!
