Family of the Month - March 2010

Meet the Cavanaugh Family

Throughout the past few years, we have enjoyed getting to know some amazing families here in Pinellas Country and this was definitely the case with the Cavanaugh family, our March family of the month. Glenn and Lisa Cavanaugh have lived in Pinellas County for the past 18 years and they have been blessed with four adorable children; Trevor, Paxton, Madison, and Liam. They are active in the community, leaders in the Scout programs, advocates for families facing cancer and, as a friend of the family so clearly put it, “They are one of the strongest, sweetest, most amazing families you will ever meet!”

When we contacted Glenn and Lisa about being the feature family for March, they replied, “March would be great; we love the month of March. Our last name is Irish and every March we like to decorate the house for St. Patrick’s Day. Some years we even have a special visit from a leprechaun who leaves the kids some good books to read.”

While Glenn and Lisa are both successful, trained professionals, their primary focus is their family. “There is nothing quite like being a parent,” the Cavanaughs told us. “We love our kids so much. They each have their own unique personality and each one of them brings us such joy and love.”

For the past couple of years though, things have not been that easy for the Cavanaughs. In 2008 little Madison was diagnosed with A.L.L. (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). “We could write a book on how Madison’s Leukemia diagnosis has affected our family,” Glenn and Lisa told us. “It makes you realize that every moment is precious. We do what we can as a family to make our lives as normal as possible; however we realize that we have a new normal now.”

Recently Madison was chosen to be the 2010 Girl of the Year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Cavanaughs are currently forming a team for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, coming up in April. Next month we will learn more about the Cavanaugh’s battle with Leukemia and how we can help.

Family Favorites

  • Our favorite team is the Tampa Bay Lightning! We are all now true fans.
  • Our favorite foods are meat and pasta and any kind of berry, but especially raspberries.
  • The kids favorite movies are Enchanted, Cars, Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Star Wars Series, while Mom and Dad enjoy most anything.
  • Our favorite restaurants have to be McDonalds, Chick-fil-a, Sweet Tomatoes and Chili’s.
  • Our favorite vacation spot is at grandma’s cottage on Calabogie Lake in Canada, while our favorite local vacation spot would have to be Disney.
  • One of our favorite things to do together is go camping as a family. We just tent it right now but maybe someday we’ll get a pop-up camper.
  • When we have the opportunity, we enjoy spending our free time playing outdoors—riding our bikes, walking on the beach or hiking together. At home we enjoy playing Wii together and when we have a chance we love to cuddle up and read.

Meet the kids

Trevor is nine years old and is a great big brother. His is also a real thinker. He enjoys playing Chess, building with LEGOS, playing the piano and reading books. Trevor loves going on a good, fast bike ride and he also has a fascination for fancy, unique cars.

Paxton is seven years old and likes to dance and loves spending time with her friends. She has a true heart for animals, she enjoys drawing pictures and she would love to take skating lessons someday.

Madison is five years old and has one of the biggest smiles you will ever see. She is funny, smart, and as sweet as they come. Madison really enjoys gymnastics and can’t wait to start up again once her treatments are completed. In her free time Madison enjoys making lots of pictures and cards and she loves doing things for others.

Liam is three years old and loves preschool. He is a real go-getter for his age. Liam loves to play outside and he is looking forward to starting t-ball this spring.
