Poblanos Grill & Bar
Best. Mexican. Ever. The Hungry Family voted, and Poblano’s wins, hands down.
Now when they first pulled into the parking lot of Poblano’s in north Clearwater, the Hungry Mom had a few misgivings about bringing the gang. Viewing the outdoor dining area within the strip mall, she couldn’t see the soul that lies within the doors. But as soon as these hungry folks were greeted by the hostess, Mom knew that everything would be better than okay. Here is a staff, headed by Juan and his family, who genuinely care about their guests and are passionate about the food they serve.
The Hungry Family were treated to a sampling of the most popular menu items. With this family’s passion for guacamole, Abuela’s guacamole was a real treat. Since the Hungry Dad makes a killer blend, the kids are choosy about their guac, but Abuela’s passed the test. Not the typical variety, it showcases fresh chopped avocado blended gently with house-made pico de gallo. Pretty sure it could be eaten with a spoon as the main meal. No need, though, because fresh corn chips are the perfect vehicle to get the guac into hungry diners’ mouths!
Just listen to the menu description for Pollo Picoso: “Kick it up a notch with this dish, which includes grilled chicken and sautéed onions, topped with our salsa verde and queso dip combo, served with Mexican rice, refried beans, and 3 flour tortillas.” A spicy chicken dish with rich depth and an overarching lime bite, Pollo Picoso is the house favorite, and this Hungry Mom’s personal pick.
With the oldest Hungry Brother’s menu choice, becoming a man might happen faster than ever anticipated! He dove into the burrito Grande, which as the menu says, is GIGANTIC. Even with his gigantic appetite, he couldn’t finish it!
The amazing nachos, split by a couple of our Hungry Kiddos, were heaped with delicious and fresh ingredients. Poblano’s also offers a variety of entrees, combos, tacos, Mexican classics with a modern twist, vegetarian and low carb options, and an impressive kids’ menu, too.
On Monday “Taco Night,” the Hungry Family might be back for the specials on drinks and 99-cent tacos. Maybe Hungry Big Brother will compete in the taco eating contest! Poblano’s also offers live music on Friday nights.
Looking around on their visit, this family could tell that the Poblano’s motto could easily come true for them. The motto goes, “Warning! We may be habit-forming!” No wonder the servers here tend to know what customers will order before they take their seats. Trust the Hungry Mom on this—whether you’re in Hillsborough or Pinellas, Poblano’s is worth the drive for fresh, authentic Mexican food, lovingly prepared and served in the most friendly atmosphere!
P.S. Important! Do not leave without a banana burrito. Skip dinner if you must. Well, don’t do that, because the sacrifice would be too great . . . but this banana burrito is something special. Share it with someone you love, and eat happy.
Dining out is an experience most of us have incorporated into our lives on a regular basis and here in Pinellas county we are blessed to have some of the finest family restaurants around. Each month the “Hungry Family” will be loading up and traveling throughout Pinellas on their Destination Dinner Road Trip to search out and find the best family restaurants on the peninsula. So if you have a restaurant you would like us to visit, simply email us your recommendation to email@example.com and we will see if we can add your restaurant as a future destination.
