Kids in the Kitchen

Have you ever noticed how your childrens’ faces light up when you pull them up to the counter and let them stir something? The kitchen is a center of activity in many homes, and as a result, children want to be involved. Letting children help to prepare meals is a wonderful opportunity to teach them about responsibility, creativity, science and the importance of following instructions.

Cinnamon Rolls

These cinnamon rolls are a little faster to make than most and your kids will have fun making them.

  • 4 1⁄2 cups biscuit/baking mix
  • 1 1⁄3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1⁄4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. Combine biscuit mix and milk. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead 10-12 times.
  2. Roll dough into a 12 inch square. Spread with butter; combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over butter.
  3. Roll up then cut into 12 slices. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  4. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown.
  5. Combine remaining ingredients. Spread over rolls.
