Family of the Month - January 2012

Meet the Dimarco Family

Sponsored by Lee Roy Selmon's

When we asked our Family of the Month what they like best about January, they mentioned the “hope of fresh new beginnings, which hold much promise for what is to come in the New Year.” The Dimarco family is sure to find much promise in 2012. They set their goals high and embrace opportunities together. Music and art play a big part in their lives, as do history and sports.

Cindy recalls how she and Charles met. It was a “providentially placed squirrel” responsible for bringing them together 15 years ago! On her way to church, Cindy thought she had hit a squirrel. Noticing her concern, Charles (the “very kind gentleman” in the car behind her) met Cindy in the parking lot to assure her the squirrel was fine. Less than a year later they “walked the aisle of the same church.” And the rest is history!

Charles and Cindy both grew up in Pinellas. They have developed close friendships with church family and neighbors, and they “enjoy all the opportunities this area affords our children – from the museums, libraries, and historical places to the fun activities, beaches, and natural beauty.”

After graduating with a master’s degree from USF, Charles worked in marketing for 10 years. He currently serves as Director of Marketing for an entrepreneurial start-up company; but his goal and dream job is to one day be part of the Marketing team for Chick-fil-A in their Atlanta headquarters.

Cindy graduated from Liberty University and earned her masters at Columbia Bible – and then taught Kindergarten for 10 years before becoming a fulltime mom, homemaker, and home school teacher to their two sons, CJ (11) and Colin (7). She also teaches classes at Chosen Co-op for home schooled children.

CJ and Colin have played violin, cello, and piano since they were quite young, so it is no surprise that this family’s most memorable experience from 2011 was Fine Arts Summer Academy in Nashville with the Annie Moses Band (AMB). It was an “incredible musical and spiritual opportunity.” Julliard-trained members of the AMB spend two weeks working with the children and their respective instruments, “culminating in a final gala that rivals any Broadway production!”

Charles and Cindy enjoy their role as parents, “embracing the ups and downs that grow deep rich relationships. Laughter is a real bonus, too!” laughs Cindy. The couple likes “learning who each child is and who they were created to be.” They want their boys to become their own unique selves. They see their job as a responsibility, a blessing, and an opportunity to impact generations.

With such leadership and talent, we expect to see more good things for the Dimarcos in 2012. Opportunity and promise abound, and Gulf Coast Family wishes your family the best year ever!

Meet the Kids: CJ and Colin

Eleven-year-old CJ is a musician, artist, detective, historian, and reader extraordinaire. He has been playing the violin and piano for 6 years and sometimes entertains residents at retirement communities. He is active in the church orchestra. He loves to read, especially adventure, military history, and mystery books. He would love to become an FBI agent or serve in the United States Navy when he grows up.

“The mystery of what would happen if an irresistible force met an immovable object is best summed up in seven-year old Colin. He is certainly a leader in the making.” He has his own perspective on things, but is a loveable, cuddly young man at heart. Colin enjoys playing music, playing soccer, anything involving football (especially with Dad), and wrestling (again, with Dad). He has been playing cello for 3 years and has just recently started taking piano lessons.
